Clean Drinkable Water — Community-managed RO Plants
In several villages across Haroonabad and Hasilpur, families were relying on polluted canal water and extremely saline groundwater for drinking. Water sources often carried dust, insects, dead plants, and sewage, and the groundwater in some areas had a TDS level close to 19,000 ppm, far beyond safe limits.
This led to a surge in waterborne illnesses. Surveys showed that three out of four reported cases were tied to unsafe water, with children and women suffering the most from diseases like diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, kidney stones, and typhoid.
To address this, Chaanan installed community-managed RO plants across different villages in southern Punjab. Each plant now provides thousands of liters of clean drinking water every day, easing the burden on families and improving health outcomes across the region.
Local elders and community groups manage the day-to-day operations, while residents contribute to running costs. This shared ownership keeps the system reliable and sustainable.
Today, hundreds of families have access to safe, drinkable water, something that was missing for generations. It’s a simple change with a powerful impact: healthier children, fewer medical expenses, and a stronger, more hopeful community.
